“The Breeding Principles Behind the Pavey Angus V-Series”

At Pavey Angus we believe that a bull should represent more than a set of figures on a page. A herd sire has a large influence on the future of a commercial breeding program, and for that reason our focus has always been on producing cattle that are practical, reliable and profitable for the people who use them.

The Pavey Angus V-Series reflects that philosophy.

Every V-Series bull offered through our program has been bred and selected with a clear set of commercial priorities in mind. These priorities guide our breeding decisions and ultimately shape the type of cattle we aim to produce.

Calving Ease and Practical Birth Weights

Calving ease remains one of the most important traits for commercial producers. The V-Series program places strong emphasis on moderate birth weights and balanced calving ease EBVs to help minimise calving difficulties while still allowing for strong post-natal performance. Our goal is simple — cattle that allow producers to sleep at night during calving.

Growth That Converts to Kilograms

Commercial producers are paid for kilograms of beef. V-Series cattle are selected to deliver strong growth while maintaining balance and efficiency. We aim to produce cattle that grow well, finish well and contribute to profitable weaning and sale weights without creating unnecessary cow maintenance.

Quiet Temperament

Temperament is a trait we take seriously. Quiet cattle are safer to handle and easier to manage across all production systems. Our cattle are handled regularly and we continue to select strongly for calm, workable temperaments within the herd.

Structural Soundness

Bulls must be able to work across large paddocks and varied environments. Structural soundness — including feet, legs and overall mobility — is an important part of the selection process within the Pavey Angus herd. Independent structural assessment provides an additional level of confidence in the bulls we present.

Fertility and Integrity

Fertility remains the most economically important trait in any breeding program. Every bull offered by Pavey Angus is backed by our fertility guarantee, reflecting our confidence in the cattle and our commitment to standing behind what we sell.

Ultimately, the V-Series represents our ongoing effort to produce Angus cattle that combine performance, reliability and practical usefulness for commercial operations.

While EBVs and data provide valuable guidance, we believe the most important measure of success is how our cattle perform in real commercial environments. Our aim is to build long-term relationships with producers who value balanced, functional Angus genetics.

We look forward to welcoming visitors to the property and discussing the program further in the lead-up to our upcoming sale.
